July 31: Canoeing on Jackson Lake

Tuesday, July 31, 2007:
The boys are still not feeling well and were up during the night to go to the bathroom and to throw-up. Mark and Ann got up early to take a dip and they went out to breakfast. We made breakfast of bacon and eggs, but no children were interested in eating. Maslin’s stomach was starting to hurt too. Owen was feeling a bit better and had kept down a tad of water. Mark, Owen and George went out for a paddle in Mark and Ann’s canoe on Jackson Lake. Maslin did a little scrap booking, Ann and I chatted, while we waited for our turn in the canoe. Once the guys returned the ladies ventured out. We had a nice paddle but it was starting to get windy and the water was getting rough. When we returned, George and I decided it was time to take the boys to the Jackson Lake Lodge Clinic. The PA (physician assistant) decided they needed an IV of liquids. She was able to stick Drew on the first try, though there was a lot of bleeding involved. He had two bags of fluids and he was starting to feel much better. Owen on the other hand, she stuck three times and was not able to get an IV set up, so we were off to Emerg-A-Care in Jackson, which is 45 miles away, where Dr. Blue would be able to get the IV into Owen. After three IV bags we were off to a quick tour of Mark and Ann’s downtown Jackson abode and it is just perfect, a place that fits them like a glove, well built with their own REI store downstairs in the basement; tents, ski gear and sleeping bags ready to go as if responding to the fireman’s siren. Very Cool!
We headed home to camp in Colter with hopes of a next day recovery, but Maz started to show signs of the evil virus. More news soon!
